June 2018 TV Cancellations & Renewals

Does Age Really Matter?

Image
If you've read the title of this post, you probably already have a few different answers to this question. It could be as simple as yes-or-no or as complicated as yes and no. You could have an entire speech about how it doesn't matter. You could have a speech about how it does matter and pedophilia is a real problem in the United States. Pedophilia is defined as a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children. The keywords here are "primary" and "exclusive", but there's other key things to know about pedophilia, especially in the United States. For the condition to be diagnosed, an individual must either act on their sexual urges or experience significant distress as a result of their urges or fantasies. Without these two criteria, a person may have a pedophilic sexual orientation but not pedophilic disorder. An estimated twenty percent of American children have...

Media Reform

On Facebook, there was an article posted approximately two years ago. It was talking about police officers and it used very pointed language. I forgot about it until Facebook informed me about this post I made after reading the article. It is as follows: I generally try not to speak on topics like this online. But, I read this article and it just irritated me so badly. In all seriousness, I have many problems with this article. It's not because of Alton Sterling, though he's another addition to a exceedingly large issue. The media spins articles like this so hard. They use specific words to grab you by the stomach: "police killings", "targeting", and others. If you heard police fatalities or any other combination of words meaning the same thing, it doesn't resonate the same. Also, I would love to see a breakdown of police shooting fatalities. Media has listed 500+ so far this year, but does that include people like that Texas mom who murdered her d...

Goals and Resolutions 2018: Update 6/28

I started a job and I've been working my butt off. I have been slacking on some resolutions, but now that I'm making an extra income... hopefully, I can complete more of these. Fingers crossed.  Goals and Resolutions for 2018 Marathon/Run .  I would like to either run in a marathon or a fun-run type activity. I am not good at running or walking for that matter, so that is one thing I'd like to do in 2018. I feel like training for it alone would help my health. Go to the beach .  As a person who lived near the beach for 14 years of their life, I never liked the beach. I went to one in 2015 (the Bahamas) and fell in love with it. I want to go this year with Jude since he has never seen a beach (except in pictures).  Create a fragrance free bath bomb recipe.   I am allergic to fragrances, but I like the idea of bath bombs. I want to create a fragrance free recipe and make a bunch to put on an etsy shop. Learn to dance.  Take a dance class, even if...

I don’t like beer: Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale

Image
Let me start out by saying... I don't like beer. I've never liked beer. I want to start. Tonight, I'm trying Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour Ale. It was suggested by a coworker. He gave me a lavish explanation and I nodded as if this made total sense. It did in theory, but (to me) beer is beer. There is varying degrees of beer from tolerable taste to absolutely disgusting. The latter ends up down the drain. You can watch my taste-testing video here: Initially, the Monk's Cafe was amazing. It is in a bottle though so it didn't stay as cold as it needed to be. The first few sips were amazing, but as it became warmer, it started tasting like any other domestic beer (in my opinion). Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale *Drink ice cold* 6.5/10 I just want to find a beer that I love 10/10.

It's May 9th.... I'm a little late. Hello! Hi! Ciao bella! Yes, I called you beautiful. What isn't beautiful is the shows we lost this month... It's sad. Life Update: 5/7/2018

The first part of my life update is to let you know that I got Ben and Jerry's ice cream on my 8 button and now I'm incredibly sad because it's sticky. Now let's get onto the actual update since my addiction to non-dairy delicious ice cream is not really an update. It's a constant. Let's see... Since April, I've had a lot of ups and downs in every aspect of my life. The week of my surgery was rough. My stepfather had a seizure at home (which in the last month... we have found out that no one can figure out why). It was the scariest situation because I've never had to call 9-1-1 before for a medical emergency and I felt completely helpless. Thankfully, he's okay now. A few days after that, I had surgery on my nose. It was gross and maybe one day I'll write a blog about the process. It happened on April 13th (Friday the 13th, woo!). I had a septoplasty, biturbinate reduction, and something to do with a concha bullosa. I have no idea what really...

Why should I get a degree?

It's funny. I graduated high school in 2010. The main thing our guidance counselors shoved into our brains was that we had to get a degree to succeed. This may be true if you become a doctor or maybe a lawyer, but other degrees do not have the same output. Success tends to be measured by happiness and money. Degrees such as education, criminal justice, and others do not have the same income as others (like accounting, law, pre-med/medical school, etc.).  So what is the purpose of getting a degree if that's true? Why put yourself into debt? What is the benefit of getting a degree?  Honestly, it's up to the person. For example, my dream job is to be a professor. For me to do that, I have to get a master's degree to teach at a community college (associate/bachelor level) and a doctorate to teach at a university (undergraduate and graduate). For me to achieve my dream job, I have to get a degree. It also means that I get to go heavily in debt. I regret not doing bett...

Felon Disenfranchsement: Why Felons Deserve the Right to Vote

Felon Disenfranchisement: Why Felons Deserve the Right to Vote Dori McDonough West Virginia State University Spring 2016 Abstract Felon disenfranchisement, in regards to voting, effects several Americans in the United States. Felon disenfranchisement is when people are prohibited from voting due to being convicted of a felony. The purpose of this paper is to analyze felon disenfranchisement in regards to voting rights. First, I will review the history of felon disenfranchisement. Then, I will assess how felon disenfranchisement causes further racial disparities in the United States. Finally, I will justify why felons deserve the right to vote. I concluded and data suggested felon disenfranchisement causes more harm than good. Felon disenfranchisement affects all United States citizens, not just felons. March 2018 TV Show Cancellations & Renewals

Marchin' right on into April. We are almost at the end of the Winter television show run and at the beginning of the Spring television show run. Summer is only a few months away. I found a lot of good television shows this Fall/Winter, but unfortunately, there's been a lot of crappy ones too. It seems like a lot of shows want to achieve that 30 minute sitcom perfection that my generation and prior grew up loving. It's apparently harder to achieve than you think because so many keep getting cancelled. Here's what made the cut. Renewals The Good Doctor (ABC) - Season 2 Schitt's Creek (Pop) - Season 5 Black Mirror (Netflx) - Season 5 The Wall (NBC) - Season 3 Power (Starz) - Season 6 Dancing with the Stars (ABC) The Bachelor (ABC) Child Support (ABC) America's Funniest Home Video (ABC) Travelers (Netflix) - Season 3 The Sinner (USA) - Season 2 Will & Grace (NBC) - Season 11 Hollywood Game Night (NBC) - Season 6 Queer Eye (Netflix) Nailed It!...

2018 Goals: 3/25 Update

March is almost over. It is almost April! So we are essentially four months into the year. I made a lot of goals and resolutions for 2018. I'm hoping that this year is the year that there is change! I crave a change in my life. So far this year, I've been down and I've been up. I feel a lot better than I have in months, but I'm still not feeling great. I have accomplished a bunch on my list! Living in the Past

I'm guilty of it. I know others who are guilty of it. I'm sure you may be guilty of it.  Here's a test if you are guilty of it.    Do you ever think about how your body looked in high school or prior to a life event (marriage, child, etc.)?  Do you ever think about friends you have lost over the years?  Do you think about how great the old days were?  Do you ever think about all the fun things you used to do as a child?  How happy you used to be? How carefree life used to be? Do you ever wish you could go back to your youth or high school? If you answered "yes" to 3 or more of those questions, you may live in the past more than the average person.  I'm definitely guilty of it, probably more so than the average bear. I think about how I used to be thin in high school and prior to high school. Before I had my son, I weighed 30 lbs. less than I do now and I didn't have mom belly. I think about the friends I've lost over the...

Life Update: 3/5/18

Hi guys! Here's my monthly life update. Let's break this down now. Graduate School I'm in my last semester of graduate school. I'll have a master's degree in like... 2 months. Isn't that crazy? It's only going to be my girl, Sydnee, and I graduating from the program this semester. I've been trying to stay 1-2 weeks ahead of my homework. I haven't even made my study guide for my comprehensive exam. That's the big wall in between my degree and I. I only have 2 months to prepare for that. Mental Health I have not started a new anti-depressant yet. My doctor wants to fix my stomach issue before we move on to another issue. I totally understand that. I honestly have felt better now that I've started my treatments for some of my medical problems. Perhaps once I get through surgeries and my other problems get remedied, then my mental health will be better. General Health So I have a surgery in April. I had a head CT done. My septum is very ...

The New House: Before

Image
We bought a house!!! It is perfect for what we need. We are essentially two households into one house. It's hard to find something is together but separate. We did it though! It's in a good area. It's in the school district I wanted for Jude. It's near delicious food and fun shops. It's seriously everything we wanted (well, Caleb wanted a sauna). We are in the process right now of cleaning and painting and changing a few things here and there. We are also remodeling the master bathroom upstairs. I wanted to show you guys a little bit of the remodel, but it isn't done yet and probably won't be for another week or two. But for the difference to make a difference (ha)... you need to see the before. Please do not stalk me.   We have a garage (yay!!) and it's a mid-entry so the splitting aspect is easier. The stairs to the house (and in the house) aren't horrible compared to where we are now. Living room (upstairs) Dining room Kitchen ...

February 2018 Cancellations and Renewals

February is over. So are some of your favorites shows. Some will return for the Spring or Summer season (or even Fall)... some won't return ever again (unless another network revives it). I've been slacking on blogging... and watching television. It's the worst because I love television. Perhaps I'll binge all summer. Here is a list of the cancelled and renewed shows from February 2018!  Cancellations A Series of Unfortunate Events (Netflix) will end next year with season 3.  Once Upon A Time (ABC) Disjointed (Netflix) **Paramount has delayed the March launch of its new series Heathers to later in 2018 as a result of the recent school shooting in Florida. ** Renewals BattleBots (Discovery and Science Channel) - Revived The Four (FOX) - Season 2 Tosh.0 (Comedy Central) - Renewed 3 more seasons Bosch (Amazon) - Season 5 No Activity (CBS All Access) - Season 2 Grace and Frankie (Netflix) - Season 5 Midnight, Texas (NBC) - Season 2 Superstore (NBC)...

January 2018: TV Renewals and Cancellations

Welcome to the new year! It's 2018, baby. Lots of new television shows are being released this year, but there's also a lot of old shows that will most likely end this year. Let's hope this is a good year for TV. I have a hypothesis that a lot of shows will be cancelled this year and next year will be the year of mostly new television shows. Let's see what was renewed and cancelled in January. Renewals She's Gotta Have It (Netflix) - Season 2 The Circus (Showtime) - Season 3 The Gifted (FOX) - Season 2 Young Sheldon (CBS) - Season 2 The Gong Show (ABC) - Season 2 Floribama Shore (MTV) - Season 2 Future Man (Hulu) - Season 2 Marvel's Runaways (Hulu) - Season 2 Ellen's Game of Games (NBC) - Season 2 Full Frontal With Samantha Bee (TBS) - Seasons 3 and 4 American Dad (TBS) - Season 15 and 16 Stan Against Evil (IFC) - Season 3 The Walking Dead (AMC) - Season 9 9-1-1 (FOX) - Season 2 The Tick (Amazon) - Season 2 Grown-ish (Freeform) - Season ...

Groundhog Day 2018!

Image
Every February 2nd, a groundhog crawls out from his home and tells the world about the weather. It's an interesting concept that America and two other countries follow. As a child, I treated Groundhog Day as a true holiday. As an adult, I google it, if I realize the date, and see what prediction he had.  Legend has it if a furry rodent casts a shadow on Groundhog Day to expect six more weeks of winter-like weather. If not, expect spring-like temperatures. Historically, when the German colonists arrived, there were no badgers in the East, so they drafted the groundhog to do the prognosticating. The idea was that if there was sun and warmth that the groundhog would return to their home.  This year's prediction: SIX MORE WEEKS OF WINTER! Talk about a bummer. I'm missing those warm temperatures, especially today. There's snow outside. Yuck! Can't Phil move to Miami? There's bound to be sun there.
