On Facebook, there was an article posted approximately two years ago. It was talking about police officers and it used very pointed language. I forgot about it until Facebook informed me about this post I made after reading the article. It is as follows: I generally try not to speak on topics like this online. But, I read this article and it just irritated me so badly. In all seriousness, I have many problems with this article. It's not because of Alton Sterling, though he's another addition to a exceedingly large issue. The media spins articles like this so hard. They use specific words to grab you by the stomach: "police killings", "targeting", and others. If you heard police fatalities or any other combination of words meaning the same thing, it doesn't resonate the same. Also, I would love to see a breakdown of police shooting fatalities. I started a job and I've been working my butt off. I have been slacking on some resolutions, but now that I'm making an extra income... hopefully, I can complete more of these. Fingers crossed.  Goals and Resolutions for 2018 Marathon/Run .  I would like to either run in a marathon or a fun-run type activity. I am not good at running or walking for that matter, so that is one thing I'd like to do in 2018. I feel like training for it alone would help my health. The first part of my life update is to let you know that I got Ben and Jerry's ice cream on my 8 button and now I'm incredibly sad because it's sticky. Now let's get onto the actual update since my addiction to non-dairy delicious ice cream is not really an update. It's a constant. Let's see... Since April, I've had a lot of ups and downs in every aspect of my life. The week of my surgery was rough. My stepfather had a seizure at home (which in the last month... we have found out that no one can figure out why). It was the scariest situation because I've never had to call 9-1-1 before for a medical emergency and I felt completely helpless. Thankfully, he's okay now. A few days after that, I had surgery on my nose. It was gross and maybe one day I'll write a blog about the process. It happened on April 13th (Friday the 13th, woo!). It's funny. I graduated high school in 2010. The main thing our guidance counselors shoved into our brains was that we had to get a degree to succeed. This may be true if you become a doctor or maybe a lawyer, but other degrees do not have the same output. Success tends to be measured by happiness and money. Degrees such as education, criminal justice, and others do not have the same income as others (like accounting, law, pre-med/medical school, etc.).  So what is the purpose of getting a degree if that's true? Why put yourself into debt? What is the benefit of getting a degree?  Honestly, it's up to the person. For example, my dream job is to be a professor. For me to do that, I have to get a master's degree to teach at a community college (associate/bachelor level) and a doctorate to teach at a university (undergraduate and graduate).
